Loving My Community: The Little Program That Could

In the last two years, the City of Dallas’s Loving My Community Neighborhood Improvement Grant (LMC) has leveraged $100,000 in city funds to effectuate more than $600,000 in civic investment. Unfortunately, despite its overwhelming success, a depressed economy and lackluster tax revenue threaten to end this valuable Dallas program. Without significant financial support from the community, Loving My Community will not exist beyond 2011.

Two years ago Elizabeth Dry was just a teacher with a dream. Tired of seeing countless students heading down a path toward teenage pregnancy and drug use, Dry envisioned a place where East Dallas youth could channel their energy and time into something greater than themselves.
